Jeff Maynor, PGA has a passion for growing the game of golf and has been a champion of player development programs for more than 20 years. Jeff serves as the Head Professional and Director of Golf at the University of Maryland Golf Course. He was first introduced to the game when he took a golf as a senior in college at the North Carolina State University and went on to earn his Masters from Clemson. In 1992, Jeff earned his PGA Membership and accepted a Head Professional job at Lane Creek Golf Club in Watkinsville, Ga. From 1994 – 1997, Jeff served as Head Professional at Reynolds Landing CC in Greensboro, Ga., until joining the University of Maryland Golf Course where he has served his community for over 20 years.
In recent years, Jeff started over 50 new golf initiatives at the University of Maryland that has resulted in more than 1,000 individuals being introduced to the game for the first time. Jeff’s most successful programs are those geared toward college students and young professionals. Focusing efforts on a segment of the market who want to be active, are looking for social activities and are just getting their careers started, Jeff has developed several programs that revolve around using golf to network, entertain and develop business relationships. Using golf as a microcosm of life, Jeff shares how you can use signals gleaned from a round of golf to help you if business and in building business relationships. College students are just entering the business world and are looking for activities to occupy their free time, both socially and professionally.
- For those viewers who may have never played there before, tell us a little bit about the beautiful University of Maryland Golf Course and how you joined UMD as the Head Professional and Director of Golf.
- You recently worked on an exciting new partnership with the Western Golf Association and their Evans Scholars Foundation as they become an exciting new addition to the University of Maryland community. As part of the partnership, you recently launched a first-ever caddie program with the WGA at the UMD Golf Course. Every summer, the UMD Golf Course will host a group of underprivileged local students to serve as caddies at your course. Tell us how the first summer went with the new caddie program and what the future holds for the program.
- Another great part of the caddie program is that these local high school student caddies will also be eligible as future Evans Scholarship candidates at the University of Maryland in the coming years for full four-year tuition and housing scholarships.
- Another interesting program you are working with is PGA HOPE that will start in the spring of 2022. Can you tell us about that partnership between the golf course and your Veteran Student Association on campus?
