Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, today announces Sonia Martin as Dentons US CEO. Sonia will lead Dentons US and be part of the Dentons United States Region Management Committee, made up of the six CEOs of the firms that have come together to provide our clients with 44 offices in 21 states. She will also be appointed to the Dentons Global Management Committee and will continue to serve on the Global Board, a role she has held since 2019.
“I am excited to continue the great work our leadership has set in motion and to work alongside an exceptional team of colleagues to drive forward our strategy in the US,” said Sonia Martin. “Even during a global pandemic, Dentons has experienced significant growth, attracted top talent and made great strides on our commitment to diversity and inclusion. The breadth of our offering sets us apart from other law firms and that, coupled with the exceptional clients we serve day in and day out, makes me incredibly excited about leading Dentons US into this next important chapter.”
In addition to being a trusted advisor to clients, Sonia – who is the first woman to fill the role of Dentons US CEO – brings significant in-firm experience including being a two-term member of Dentons US Board, most recently serving as Vice-Chairperson, Managing Partner of Dentons’ San Francisco and Oakland offices, a member of Dentons’ Global LGBTQ+ Network, and a member of Dentons Global and US Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Women LEAD (Leadership, Entrepreneurism, Advancement, Development) Committee. She also serves as the Vice Chair of Board of Directors for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Historical Society and is a member of the Executive Board of KEEN SF.
Mary Wilson will maintain her existing role as Dentons US Managing Partner, working alongside Sonia to support leadership in advancing practice plans, driving client service priorities and progressing diversity and inclusion initiatives. Keith Moskowitz will maintain his role as Chairperson of Dentons US Board, and John Holahan will maintain his role as Vice-Chairperson of Dentons US Board. Jeff Haidet remains Chair of Dentons US and Toby McClamroch remains Managing Partner of the United States Region of Dentons.
“I am delighted to welcome Sonia to her new role, having worked closely with her for many years,” said Elliott Portnoy, Global CEO of Dentons. “I am energized to see Dentons US benefitting from her inspiring leadership which will yield an even more connected, integrated and inclusive firm for the benefit of our clients across the US and around the world.”
“Sonia understands that the needs of our clients are changing rapidly,” said Joe Andrew, Global Chairman of Dentons. “I look forward to working with her as she helps lead the talent brought together by Project Golden Spike and works toward our goal of becoming the first truly national US law firm.”
“I am excited to continue to grow our presence across the United States,” said Toby McClamroch, Managing Partner of Dentons United States Region. “With Sonia at the helm I have every confidence that together we will move closer to building and integrating the first truly national US law firm so that we can bring our clients better service wherever their needs may be.”
