Seven members of the United States Marine Corps representing the Marine Toys for Tots Program were welcomed by IREM International President Chip Watts during the recent Institute of Real Estate Management® (IREM) Boston Metropolitan Chapter No. 4 Holiday Celebration and Chapter Awards Night held at Granite Links in Quincy.
Donations of toys from IREM Boston Chapter Members and Friends were received by the Marines for distribution to less fortunate children during this holiday season.
Toys for Tots traces its beginnings to 1947, when Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks was asked by his wife Diane to deliver a few of her handcrafted dolls to an agency that supports children in need. The concept transformed into a national community action program one year later. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, an IRS recognized 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit charity, was established in 1991 at the behest of the Marine Corps to help run and support the Marine Toys for Tots Program.
