Fall River Resident Selected for First-of-Its Kind Role at BayCoast Bank

Lucia Rebelo chosen as Financial Literacy Education Office

BayCoast Bank (Baycoast.bank), a strong supporter of education in our communities, is proud to announce the creation of a new position, Financial Literacy Education Officer.

Lucia Rebelo of Fall River, who previously served as AVP, Business Development and Government Banking Officer for BayCoast Bank, has been selected to fill this critical role.

“This exciting new position will allow me to help children and adults learn how to take charge of their finances,” said Rebelo. “Gaining the knowledge and ability to support ourselves financially, and to do so with confidence, is essential. Managing our finances – how to save, borrow, invest, protect, and spend our money wisely, gives us all the power to better our lives and form a solid foundation for success. I am honored to be selected for this first-of-its kind role at BayCoast and can’t wait to get started.”

“What we’re looking at is to change the economic trajectory of our low-to-middle income (LMI) communities through education,” said Evelyn Ranone, VP and Community Development Officer at BayCoast Bank. “At BayCoast Bank, we believe we have a responsibility to assist our neighbors where we can. That’s why it was important for the Bank to create this role, so we can strengthen our already existing financial literacy programs and bring them to the next level.”

BayCoast offers a variety of financial education programs that can be customized to suit specific needs. Whether it’s a program tailored to students who want to learn the basics of a savings or checking account, or a program designed for adults who need to build up their credit so they can buy a house, Rebelo says sharing financial knowledge, especially in LMI communities, can have a great impact.

“I came from a simple background and understand what many members of our community are going through,” said Rebelo. “My parents were immigrants. I didn’t even know what a checking account was when I entered college. I feel my experiences in life have led me to this position. I now have the opportunity to reach out to those who are having financial difficulties, who may even feel embarrassed, and give them hope through education.”

“Money management is a very personal conversation,” adds Ranone. “We know Lucia will do a tremendous job because she is caring and passionate about improving lives.”

“Learning to establish healthy financial habits is critical,” said Nicole Almeida, SVP and Chief Diversity Officer for BayCoast Bank. “The BayCoast family values education and lifelong learning and we believe growing financial education initiatives within our communities will drive financial success.”
