NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SMBC Americas Holdings, Inc., a member of SMBC Group, announced today that it has elected Joseph M. Busuttil as an Independent Director, effective March 15, 2021. Mr. Busuttil will serve as a director and chairperson of the Audit Committee.

Mr. Busuttil has more than 30 years of experience leading and managing multiple strategic financial functions across various business lines for global financial institutions. Most recently, he served on the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Audit Committee of AgriBank. Previously, he was the Chief Financial Officer at Barclays Global Investment Bank and Barclays Americas, a role he held for four years. Prior to joining Barclays, he served in various capacities at The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. for more than 20 years, including Global Head of Regulatory Control and Director of Internal Audit. He also served as Chief Financial Officer and Head of Finance, Risk, Operations, Corporate Services and International Administration for Goldman Sachs Asia and Goldman Sachs Japan, during which time he was stationed in Tokyo, Japan.
He has extensive experience managing financial and operational risks, supporting chief executive officers, and serving on board-level committees. Mr. Busuttil began his career as an auditor at Coopers & Lybrand. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a FINRA Series 27—Financial and Operations Principal—license.
