Howard County General Hospital Holds Virtual Health Education

Howard County General Hospital will hold free Living Well workshops, presenting coping skills and management techniques for people with chronic conditions, including diabetes, as well as Mental Health First Aid class in September.

Living Well with Chronic Disease is a six-week workshop for individuals living with or at risk for chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, arthritis, lung disease or other long-lasting health concerns. Participants will learn techniques to cope with feelings of frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, develop skills to communicate more effectively about their health and learn exercises and healthy eating habits to maintain and improve well-being. Caregivers are welcome.

The workshop will take place Wednesdays, Sept. 14 to Oct. 19, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom. Register online at http://bit.ly/startlivingwell.

Living Well with Diabetes is an interactive workshop that teaches diabetes self-management skills to include goal setting and stress management strategies; glucose monitoring; skin and foot care; techniques to cope with feelings of frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation; skills to communicate more effectively with family, friends and health professionals; and exercise and nutrition appropriate for diabetics. Course materials are free and sent to the address provided at registration.

Mental Health First Aid will prepare participants 18 years and older to help someone experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge in a self-paced online course followed by a virtual instructor-led class. Mental Health First Aid is free to community members and includes a digital resource manual. The cost to businesses and organizations is $25 per person.
