The intimate Abdo New River Room will rival the nation’s greatest music clubs in the upcoming season when it showcases many of today’s top singer-songwriters and musicians at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are on sale for concerts with Adam Ezra, Andy McKee, Trent Harmon, Dan Rodriguez, David Cook, Susan Werner and Vance Gilbert while more concerts will be added during the season.
A Solo Acoustic Evening with Adam Ezra begins the new season with seven-time winner of the New England Music Awards on Thursday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. Hailing from Boston, Ezra brings an unconventional approach to the music world that has allowed him to surge beyond his beloved hometown and emerge as one of the most uniquely powerful, underground live musicians in the country. His songwriting has earned him tour dates with Steve Miller, Blues Traveler, Little Feat, Gavin DeGraw, Dwight Yoakam, The Goo Goo Dolls, Marshall Tucker Band, Melissa Ethridge, Train, ZZ Top and Little Big Town. Tickets are $30-$35.
American fingerstyle guitar player Andy McKee performs with special guest Calum Graham on Friday, September 23 at 8:30 p.m. In addition to having released six studio albums, two extended plays and one live album to date, McKee has achieved viral fame for YouTube videos featuring his highly technical guitar performances. He has been featured as a cover story in both Acoustic Guitar Magazine in the U.S. and Acoustic Magazine in the UK. McKee also curates his own annual guitar retreat called Musicarium and has toured with legendary acts from Dream Theater to Tommy Emmanuel. This concert is presented by the Broward Center and AEG Presents. Tickets are $34.50-$49.50.
An American singer and TV personality who gained fame for winning the 15th season of American Idol, Trent Harmon performs on Saturday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. Harmon dropped his first album entitled You Got ‘Em All on May 18, 2018 on Big Machine Label Group. The album spawned hit singles “There’s a Girl” and “You Got ‘Em All.” He continues to flourish amidst the songwriter community of Nashville and is regularly releasing new music. Tickets are $25.
Following the release of his new full length album, Troubadour Family Man, Dan Rodriguez performs on Sunday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. He has toured or shared the stage with The Civil Wars, NeedToBreathe, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, Andy Grammar and Will Hoge, among others. His success in the commercial world has been astronomical with songs placed in ads from his local Minnesota Tourism campaigns to international ads and a Budweiser Super Bowl commercial. Rodriguez is a whiskey-drinking, fishing & hunting-loving, motorcycle-riding, quality food-eating, hippie-sympathizing, people-loving husband and father who lives in Minnesota and shares a life with his wife and two sons, Oak and Alder. Tickets are $25-$35.
Known for his rich, fiery rock voice and passionately intense performances, David Cook performs on Thursday, November 17 at 8 p.m. This unforgettable American Idol season seven winner subsequently made chart history with a record-breaking 14 debuts on Billboard‘s Digital Songs chart. His new work is an impressive collection of tunes teeming with a restless creative spirit yet anchored by an emotional depth that is compelling and showcases the power and range in Cook’s voice as well as his insightful songwriting. Tickets are $45 with $60 VIP tickets offering a meet-and-greet with the artist.
One of the most and creative forces on the acoustic music scene today, Susan Werner comes to the Abdo New River Room on Friday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m. Known for her engaging, energetic live show, she has been dubbed by National Public Radio the “Empress of the Unexpected” for the variety of her album projects that cover folk, rock, pop, gospel, blues and Americana. She also is credited as the composer and lyricist of Broadway bound Bull Durham, The Musical. Tickets are $35-$40.
Vance Gilbert continues to refine his unlikely union of humor, virtuosity and the unexpected as he performs on Thursday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m.Whether with original songwriting or ageless interpretations of covers, Gilbert’s performances are steeped in deep humanism and bravery, stunning artistry and soul, and contagious, unbridled joy. Before releasing eight albums, Gilbert burst onto the singer-songwriter scene in the early 1990s when the buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-multicultural arts teacher who was knocking ‘em dead at open mics. Word of the Philadelphia-area bred performer quickly spread to New York City leading Shawn Colvin to invite him to be a special guest on her Fat City national tour. Tickets are $30-$40 and go on sale September 29.
