We are thrilled to announce that Scott Dance is joining The Post as a climate and weather reporter.
In this role, Scott will cover extreme weather news and the intersections between weather, climate, society and the environment.
Scott comes to The Post after spending the past decade at the Baltimore Sun, where he covered a variety of beats, including the environment, science, health, politics and business. When he started at the Sun in 2012, he managed its popular weather blog.
Most recently, as the Sun’s environmental reporter, he wrote features and accountability stories about the effects of climate change, extreme weather and pollution on Maryland. Recent features looked at how Maryland can better protect its power grid against extreme weather and how Baltimore is working to protect its residents from extreme heat. These stories were part of the series “Climate Change: Ready or Not,” which he wrote as a Nieman Fellow in local investigative journalism at Harvard University.
Scott was part of a team at the Sun named a Pulitzer finalist for its coverage of the death of Freddie Gray and riots that followed in 2015; he played a supporting role in the Sun’s 2020 local reporting Pulitzer for its coverage of a lucrative relationship between the city’s mayor and the public hospital system she helped oversee.
A native of Timonium, Md., Scott earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Maryland. He plans to divide his time between Baltimore and the District’s Shaw neighborhood, where his partner Teddy is based. Until they pick a city, they are both very grateful for the MARC train.
In his free time, he enjoys tackling complex baking projects and spectating track and field.
