Baltimore-based advertising agency, Planit, was named an Honorable Mention recipient of PR Daily’s Media Relations Award in the event and stunt category for their work launching the global flagship Brickworks Design Studio for Glen-Gery amidst a global pandemic.
PR Daily’s Media Relations Awards celebrate the innovative strategies that secured media coverage and the people and teams that excelled in crafting engaging stories and more. Planit was chosen from a wide pool of entries to receive the recognition. The 2022 PR Daily Media Relations Awards Program received hundreds of entries to the year’s categories.
In winter 2021, Glen-Gery, the oldest known brick manufacturing company in North America, engaged Planit to strategize, position and announce the opening of the Brickworks New York Design Studio – the global flagship location from its parent company, Brickworks. Inspired by the Art Deco architectural movement in New York and the timeless style of the world-famous Chrysler building, an exclusive, 1930s-themed, black-tie event held in the upscale, sleek, new design studio served as the backdrop for media, influencers, celebrities and industry insiders.
All efforts were focused on positioning the Brickworks New York Design Studio as a high-end, fashion-forward space on 5th Avenue, offering a luxurious product line and premium design experience to elevate the projects of architects, designers and homeowners. Simultaneously, efforts positioned Brickworks and Glen-Gery as an architectural and design thought leader while aligning a building product brand with the luxury fashion brands also located on 5th Avenue. The challenge was doing so amidst a soaring variant of COVID-19, a changing media landscape amidst newsroom cuts and various levels of comfort amongst journalists to attend in-person events due to a new media landscape created by the pandemic.
Balancing the desire for an in-person launch with pandemic restrictions and the safety and comfort of guests, Planit was tasked with not only securing approximately 30 media attendees for the event, but earning media coverage of the launch and the space in both consumer and trade media. Ultimately, Planit secured online and print coverage with regional consumer and national trade outlets, resulting in 25 total earned placements and over 2.9 million total earned impressions. Influencer and VIP participation equated to an approximate social reach of more than 300,000+ across fashion and interior design accounts with guest appearances by Carson Kressley and Thom Filicia.
