Tenable Ventures, a newly established investing arm of the eponymous Maryland cybersecurity firm, has led a $7 million seed round for Lineaje, a California startup that secures the entire software supply chain. Other investors included New York’s Dreamit Ventures, Britain’s Veear Capital, Richard Clarke’s Belltower Fund Group and other cybersecurity executives.
“Lineaje and Tenable share the same vision – to reduce customers’ exposure to attacks on their digital infrastructure,” said Matthew Olton, Tenable’s senior vice president. “Lineaje’s ability to detect what’s in your software, and assess and mitigate software supply chain risks gives organizations the assurance that the software they deploy to run their business will not be used to harm them.”
Lineaje, based in Saratoga, Calif., was founded by CEO Javed Hasan and chief technology officer Anand Revashetty, both former McAfee engineers. “Lineaje brings a ‘trust but verify’ approach to the software supply chain by automatically attesting to the integrity of every component in your software and delivering high-quality alerts when that verification is not achieved,” said the India-born Hasan, an alumnus of the famed Indian Institute of Technology.
Tenable
Tenable, co-founded in 2002 by Ron Gula, is one of the biggest cybersecurity companies to emerge from Maryland. Based in Columbia, it is valued at over $5 billion today. Tenable unveiled its venture arm early this year, even though its $25 million fund started investing late last year.
The fund aims to back security startups focused on technologies including cloud, operational technology and identity. Besides Lineaje, Tenable Ventures has invested in identity threat detection firm Authomize, and API security startup Araali Networks. In all three, Tenable led the investment.
“Our goal at Tenable Ventures is to support innovative companies and visionary leaders like you so together we can build stronger cyber risk and exposure management ecosystems,” said Tenable chairman and CEO Amit Yoran.

All-in-one Solution
Lineaje, founded in 2021, has developed a product, dubbed SB0M360 that is termed a “first-of-a-kind” software supply chain management solution. The company says its technology helps organizations secure their complete software supply chain whether they build, buy, or use software. Tenable Ventures said it is working with Lineaje to create “shareable” data models to enhance “runtime” security that will also identify built-in weaknesses in deployed software.
“Lineaje’s unique approach can determine the components of all software and expose each component’s multi-level dependency chain,” the company said, adding that its fingerprinting technology can verify the authenticity of the entire supply chain.
