Ben Gibson, Managing partner of Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Tallahassee office, was recently elected Chairman of the State Board of Education by his fellow Board members.
“It’s truly an honor to serve as Chairman of Florida’s State Board of Education as we work to ensure that the next generation is equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed,” said Ben. “With the support and leadership of Governor DeSantis and the Florida Legislature we will continue our fight for our students, parents, and teachers and keep Florida as the best state in the nation for education.”
Serving on the State Board for Florida’s Department of Education since 2017, Ben was originally appointed to the Board by then-Governor Rick Scott. He was reappointed to the Board by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2021. The State Board of Education is a constitutional body that oversees the Florida Department of Education, directing educational policy for VPK-12 public schools and Florida’s State College System. The Board is comprised of seven gubernatorial-appointed board members who are Senate confirmed.
