Jason Murray Named The Washington Post’s Sports Editor

We are thrilled to announce that Jason Murray will be The Washington Post’s next Sports editor, a role for which he is immensely prepared with a record of running award-winning coverage and a deep understanding of the changing world of sports journalism.

Jason takes on the job at a crucial moment, with a competitive landscape that requires an intense focus on mission, strategy and innovation. He brings a keen appreciation for the power of sports coverage to connect with readers and for the lens it offers into broader issues in our world such as health, equity, race and gender.

In his three years as an assignment editor at The Post, Jason has earned the wide respect and affection of his reporters and peers. In his guidance of our coverage of the NBA and WNBA, men’s and women’s college sports, tennis and auto racing, Jason has shown himself to be a strong communicator and steady hand. Immediately after he arrived, he ran our coverage of the unforgettable pandemic NBA season, played in the Disney bubble. In his time here, he has worked with engineering and design teams to develop a new interactive bracket design for our NCAA tournament coverage, and this year he guided our robust coverage of the women’s Final Four, including editing a memorable profile of Caitlin Clark written by Ben Golliver.
