CLEVELAND–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Medical device and technology company Lazurite today announced that James Voos, M.D. has joined the company’s medical advisory board.
Dr. Voos currently serves as chair of the orthopedics departments at University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University, which includes overseeing their renowned orthopedic training programs and research divisions. He was recently elected vice president of the NFL Physicians Society (NFLPS) and serves as the head team physician for the Cleveland Browns.
“We are honored to have Dr. Voos join our team,” Lazurite CEO and cofounder Eugene Malinskiy said. “He has made significant contributions in the product refinement of the ArthroFree® Wireless Surgical Camera System, particularly for our orthopedics and sports medicine target markets.”
The ArthroFree System is the first wireless surgical camera to receive market clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for arthroscopy and general endoscopy. By eliminating conventional camera cables that tether surgeons to the surgical tower and hinder their movement, the ArthroFree System is expected to increase OR efficiency, improve OR safety and lower customer costs. More than 100 surgeries have now been performed using the ArthroFree System.
“I’m excited about joining the Lazurite team as the company brings the ArthroFree System to market,” said Dr. James Voos. “I look forward to making contributions to the evolution of the OR from wired to wireless surgical cameras.”
Dr. Voos earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas where he was elected president of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency and sports medicine fellowship at the U.S. News & World Report #1 ranked Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. While in New York, he served as assistant team physician for the New York Giants and WNBA New York Liberty. Previously, he was a team physician for the Kansas City Chiefs and head physician for the Kansas City Ballet.
Dr. Voos has published over 100 scientific papers and book chapters on topics such as ACL reconstruction, shoulder instability, and Tommy John surgery and has obtained FDA approval for a study to treat early arthritis and cartilage injuries using stem cells. He has a passion for advancing the safety and education of athletes with additional expertise in the use of wearable technology, injury prevention and sports performance. He is an investor in Lazurite.
He is a participant on a Human Factors usability validation study of the ArthroFree® Wireless Surgical Camera System.
