Spring of 2023 was a time of growth and new beginnings in Southern Maryland. According to the Calvert County Department of Economic Development , 12 new businesses opened between February and May of this year, with 8 additional companies expanding their operations. Home to a variety of industries ranging from tourism to agriculture to aerospace, the county prides itself on an attentive and supportive attitude toward new businesses, and its efforts continue to pay off.
“We are excited to welcome new businesses into the county and are equally as proud to see our existing business community expanding,” said Julie Oberg, director of the county’s economic development department. “We believe that this reflects positively on the strength and sustainability of our local economy and provides economic vitality for the residents of Calvert County.”
Among the newly established companies is SOMD Watersports located in Solomons. The business uses the county’s unique location near the Patuxent River to offer jet-ski rentals, as well as paddle boards and kayaks. Just in time for summer fun!
