Serenity Belo, director of resource development with NeighborWorks Housing Solutions (NHS; www.nhsmass.org), the leading housing service provider in southern Massachusetts, is the recent recipient of a Master of Science degree in nonprofit management and philanthropy from Bay Path University (https://www.baypath.edu/). Belo graduated with honors at the commencement ceremony, which was held in Springfield, earlier this spring.
“I have a long career in the nonprofit sector, and I have been able to gain a lot of experience,” said Belo, a resident of Quincy. “Having a master’s degree has always been something I knew I wanted to obtain, and when I found a program that focused on nonprofit management I jumped at the opportunity.”
Belo joined NeighborWorks Housing Solutions in October of 2019, and has worked to build up a robust development department. Over the past couple of years, Belo and the development team have continually increased and expanded the department’s engagement and capacity. In the fall of 2020, Belo decided to go back to school and earn her master’s degree. Later this fall she will also earn a certificate in strategic fundraising, also from Bay Path University. After high school, Belo earned a Bachelor of Science degree in international business from the University of Colorado at Denver. After finishing her undergraduate degree, she worked abroad and ultimately settled in the Boston area, where she started her career in the nonprofit sector.
“The entire NHS team extends it congratulations to Serenity on this significant achievement,” said Robert Corley, CEO of NeighborWorks Housing Solutions. “Attending classes while working full-time could not have been easy, but it demonstrates Serenity’s true commitment to our industry and to furthering her knowledge.”
