Tamara Nikotina Joins Ionic Development As Assistant Project Manager

Today, Ionic Development, Co., one of Boston’s only female-lead development companies, announced the hire of Tamara Nikotina as the firm’s Assistant Project Manager. The hiring of Nikotina furthers Ionic as a growing figure in the Boston real estate development market and advances its organizational mission of creating projects that positively impact local communities.

In the new role, Nikotina works closely with Kaitlin McCarthy, Ionic’s Founder and CEO, to envision projects and curate design elements. She will play a significant role in the day-to-day operations of Ionic’s newest development projects, including Parcel D-4, the first affordable housing development in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood that will deliver 200 units of income-restricted housing. Ionic is a part of one of two teams bidding for a redevelopment of 6-acres near the Massachusetts Convention Center.

Nikotina joins Ionic with multiple years of structural engineering and project management experience on local life science, office, and residential buildings. She previously worked with NorthStar Project & Real Estate Services, a Cambridge-based real estate development and project management company, and at SGH, a nationally recognized engineering firm. She graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Civil Engineering and Architectural Studies.

“Tamara brings a breadth of engineering experience and project management background to her new role at Ionic, and I’m thrilled to welcome her to the team,” said McCarthy. “This is such an exciting time for Ionic as we continue to expand and push boundaries throughout the development world and the City of Boston. It brings me immense joy to welcome an outstanding project manager like Tamara to support Ionic’s path towards growth.”

“The opportunity to work with a driven leader like Kaitlin is incredible, and not one that I take lightly,” said Nikotina. “Her passion for changing the development space and ensuring our projects are beneficial for the communities they affect is what most stood out to me among Ionic’s mission. Our work has the power to simultaneously better Boston and improve the lives of our communities, and I look forward to contributing to that mission.”

Ionic Development, Co. was founded in 2023 by McCarthy who wanted to make space for a female presence in the male-dominated development field. Before founding Ionic, McCarthy was Vice President at The HYM Investment Group where she oversaw a number of major development projects including One Congress and The Sudbury.
