Baltimore’s Iconic 7 East Redwood Building Hits the Market

Baltimore Development Corporation seeks visionary redevelopment proposals for historic Beaux-Arts landmark in the heart of the city’s economic renaissance

The Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) announces the sale and Request for Proposals (RFP) for the 7 East Redwood building, a historic downtown asset primed for redevelopment.

The Beaux-Arts-styled building, originally the First National Bank Headquarters, was constructed in 1924 and stands as a testament to the rich architectural heritage of Baltimore. Designed by Chicago-based architectural firm Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, 7 East Redwood encapsulates the grandeur of the era. The 21-story office building, spanning over 184,275 gross square feet, is now being offered back to the private market, marking a significant milestone in the revitalization of the Downtown Core.

As Baltimore undergoes a transformative period with over $6.6 billion in infrastructure and development projects within an 8-mile radius, including the nearby Harborplace’s redevelopment, this sale represents a unique opportunity. The future of 7 East Redwood is poised to contribute to the area’s evolution, complementing the shift towards a diverse and rapidly expanding residential neighborhood.

Kim Clark, Executive Vice President of the BDC, expresses her admiration for the property: “The sale of 7 East Redwood is not just about finding a new owner; it’s about finding a custodian for a piece of Baltimore’s soul. This building isn’t only gorgeous—it’s a canvas for innovation in our thriving cityscape. We are anticipating a robust response from the developer community.”

In alignment with the “Baltimore Together” strategic plan, the BDC invites proposals to invigorate 7 East Redwood with new life, respecting its historic essence while infusing modern functionality. Developers are called upon to conceptualize spaces ranging from cutting-edge offices to boutique residences or even a hybrid of uses that will serve the community and enrich the city’s economic fabric.

The full RFP can be accessed by prospective developers on the Baltimore Development Corporation’s website, where the necessary documents and further particulars about the property are readily available.
