The Maryland Multi-Housing Association (MMHA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Matthew Pipkin, Jr. as government and community affairs manager. With an extensive background working in government relations, Pipkin’s knowledge and experience will reinforce the association’s government and community outreach efforts.
In his role as government and community affairs manager, Pipkin will advocate on issues of concern on behalf of MMHA at both the state and local level across Maryland. In addition, he will work to establish and promote relations between MMHA members and the communities that call multi-housing their home.
A lifelong Annapolis resident and cousin to longtime former Maryland Senate Minority Leader EJ Pipkin, Pipkin most recently served as government relations representative for the Maryland Judiciary. As a key member of the government relations team, he communicated and consulted with Judiciary leadership on legislative activity that could have impacted on judiciary functions and their employees. Pipkin also served in a liaison capacity between the Maryland Judiciary and other federal, state, local, and non-profit entities.
Pipkin has also served as a Legislative Assistant to former Councilwoman Jessica Haire of the Anne Arundel County Council. For the 2018-2022 term, he worked to assist, author and advocate the Councilwoman’s legislative agenda, which resulted in the codification of 24 local laws (the most by any Councilmember for the term). He was also responsible for assisting, promoting, and representing the 82,000+ residents and businesses of the district, helping them to navigate local, state, and federal government bureaucracies.
Pipkin received his political science degree from Towson University where he was a member of the Towson Honors College. At Towson, he was a columnist for The Towerlight and was known for organizing political debates to help promote civil discourse on campus.
