Redeveloped mixed-use destination is an urban, pedestrian-centric retreat with vibrant retail, offices and residences
National developer Portman today announces significant progress at Savona Mill, the adaptive reuse and mixed-use community in the heart of Charlotte’s West End. The first phase of the project’s residential component is Vera at Savona Mill, a 319-unit mid-rise multifamily building. Vera is nearing completion with the first units set to deliver in July. With the revitalization of the mill building complete, Portman is gearing up to reopen the expanded Stewart Creek Greenway that runs adjacent to the project.
Anchored by a 105-year-old former textile mill, Savona Mill now features reimagined space for ground-floor retail, creative offices and a community plaza. Vera is the final component of the mixed-use project. It will introduce a top-tier residential experience, including a resort-style pool equipped with cabanas, a pet spa and dog park, a state of the art fitness center with a yoga studio, a game room and coworking lounge. Vera offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom options, as well as studios, lofts and townhomes. Pre-leasing will be launched late this month.
“Vera is an essential part of creating an integrated mixed-use experience at Savona Mill,” said Kate Culver, vice president of development for Portman. “The reimagined Savona Mill is breathing new life into the historic FreeMoreWest neighborhood with highly sought-after residences and a lively workplace environment connected with unprecedented connection to greenspace and gardens. We’re eagerly putting the finishing touches on Vera and look forward to welcoming future residents to their new homes at Savona Mill this summer.”
Located just 10 minutes from Uptown Charlotte and the city’s central business district, Savona Mill sits adjacent to the future expansion of the Stewart Creek Greenway that connects to the LYNX Light Rail and Blue Line Rail Trail. This summer, Portman has plans to activate Savona Mill’s greenspace with experiences for the community, such as food trucks, fitness events, markets and more exciting social gatherings. A second phase of residential at Savona Mill is anticipated to break ground Summer 2025 and include 279 multifamily units and 40 townhouses.
Also in Charlotte, Portman is developing Linea, a transit-oriented, 370-unit luxury residential community in South End. The 25-story tower features 18,700 square feet of ground-floor retail space with True Food Kitchen, BAR ONE South End and Night Swim Coffee already confirmed as tenants. Linea is connected to The Line, Portman’s 318,000-square-foot Class-A office tower, via a fourth-floor sky bridge. The activated plaza also features direct connections to the Blue Line Rail Trail and LYNX Light Rail. Pre-leasing at Linea will begin this summer, with the first units delivering in February 2025.
