Students from YMCA of South Florida’s After School Programs Join the Florida Panthers and Fort Lauderdale Mayor for a Day on the Ice at the New Baptist Health IcePlex

A group of 25 students from the L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center’s after school programs were among the first to visit and experience the facilities at the new Baptist Health IcePlex in Fort Lauderdale. Members of the Florida Panthers organization were on hand to teach students basic ice-skating techniques.

Both groups were joined by City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, who encouraged everyone to get active as part of the “Move with the Mayor” initiative, a program launched by the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention that promotes physical activity.

The 44,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Baptist Health IcePlex is located at the site of the Fort Lauderdale War Memorial, 800 Northeast 8th Street, and features two regulation-sized indoor ice rinks, including a dedicated public rink offering a robust variety of youth and adult hockey programs, public skating and figure skating for the community.
