In a landmark deal for west Houston, Florida-based PopStroke Entertainment Group will open a Tiger Woods-designed golf entertainment facility – the first in Texas – in NewQuest Properties’ Katy Grand.
“PopStroke is the most innovative family-oriented golf concept in today’s entertainment category. Choosing Katy Grand for its flagship location in Texas is an incredible honor,” says Jeff Hayes, managing partner of NewQuest’s land and tenant advisory services.
PopStroke is poised to dominate the minigolf industry. Its experiential, family-driven concept features two 18-hole courses created by Tiger Woods’ TGR Design team, offering competitive challenges for experienced golfers and the less-skilled set alike. In addition to teeing up, the experience includes a full-service restaurant, bar with signature cocktails and craft beers, premium ice cream parlor, outdoor games and playground.
“It is family fun for all ages with something for everyone,” Hayes says. “Katy is a perfect location because it’s a strong community with a love for sports and recreation.”
The technologically-advanced golf-entertainment concept uses a customizable mobile app for delivering orders to any spot on the course, showcasing scores on a digital scoreboard and enrolling in a rewards program. Part of the experience includes a commemorative e6 golf ball from Bridgestone Golf, Woods’ preferred manufacturer for two decades.
“This is a high-profile win for Katy, West Houston and NewQuest’s project,” says Heather Nguyen, development partner in the Houston-based brokerage firm. “PopStroke puts Katy Grand on the map and speaks to the strength of the location.”
PopStroke is expected to open in summer 2022 on a 3.2-acre tract, the last available site in Katy Grand’s phase II. The new attraction will include an 8,000-sf restaurant.
PopStroke has properties in Port Saint Lucie and Fort Myers, Fla., and recently announced locations coming to Sarasota, Orlando, Tampa and Delray Beach plus Glendale and Scottsdale, Ariz. Representing the elite brand in the Katy Grand transaction were its master brokers Tom Godino and Noah Jones of Atlantic Realty in Jupiter, Fla., and the NewQuest team of Brett Strake and Hayes.
“Texas outshines all other states on many fronts from its business-friendly economy to its passion for innovation,” Hayes says. “Katy’s demographics were a huge draw for PopStroke because of the high number of families with children and disposable incomes.”
Katy Grand’s trade area boasts one of the highest-growth residential markets in the nation, as evidenced by decisions from the University of Houston and Houston Community College to develop large campuses adjacent to NewQuest’s land. Within two miles of the project, the population has spiked 47% in recent years. The average household income is $123,000 per year in the five-mile trade area.
“Interest in Katy Grand is surpassing pre-pandemic levels. With all tenants quickly rebounding, our restaurants are hitting record numbers,” Nguyen says. She and Rebecca Le, a NewQuest vice president, lease the 30-acre destination development, located at Interstate 10 and the Grand Parkway/TX 99.
HaiDaiLao, a world-renowned hot pot restaurateur, is opening in the coming days. Gloria’s Latin cuisine opened about two weeks ago. Walk-On Sports Bistreaux will come online in June.
PopStroke is joining an anchor lineup with a 19-screen Cinemark theater and six-level, 1,727-space Metropark garage. One of Katy Grand’s close neighbors is Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, an 88,000-sf venue with high-speed carts, half-mile European-style track, zip line, arcade and three restaurants.
“PopStroke’s facility will add another dimension to Katy Grand. It’s rewarding for NewQuest to have created a five-star dining and entertainment destination that has drawn so many new brands to Texas,” Nguyen says.
