My City at Peace and The HYM Investment Group Announce Investment in P3 Roxbury by Professional Athlete Shabazz Napier

Bolstered by Napier’s partnership, P3 will create a more vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable Roxbury

My City at Peace (MyCAP) and The HYM Investment Group (HYM) are thrilled to announce that esteemed professional athlete with local roots, Shabazz Napier, has made a financial investment in P3 Roxbury, a transformative, mixed-use development project in the heart of Roxbury’s Nubian Square neighborhood. Hailing from Mission Hill, Napier’s investment exemplifies his commitment to uplifting his local community and the vision he shares with MyCAP and HYM of creating a more vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable Roxbury. This significant project milestone also underscores the continued opportunity for local investors to join Napier in creating a bright future for the Roxbury community.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate the investment in P3 Roxbury from Shabazz Napier,” said Reverend Jeffrey Brown, Founder and CEO of My City at Peace and Thomas N. O’Brien, Founding Partner and Chief Executive Officer of HYM. “Our partnership with Shabazz exemplifies a shared commitment to uplifting communities and creating lasting change in Roxbury. By prioritizing deeply affordable housing, equitable job opportunities, and meaningful inclusion in the development process, P3 seeks to foster a future where all can thrive.”

“I would like to thank Rev. Brown and Thomas O’Brien for giving me this opportunity. An opportunity to give back to a community that helped raised me as the man I am today is an opportunity of a lifetime. P3 will help continue the growth of one of the many communities in the Greater Boston area. I am excited for the future,” said Shabazz Napier.

Napier brings remarkable professional achievements and a deep passion for community empowerment with his investment in P3 Roxbury.  A standout basketball player who first honed his skills on the courts of Mission Hill, Napier gained national recognition during his collegiate career at the University of Connecticut, where he led the Huskies to two NCAA championships. In 2014, his journey continued when he was selected in the first round of NBA draft, where he played for several teams, including the Boston Celtics. He currently plays for Olimpia Milano of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A in the EuroLeague.

Napier has been highly involved in community outreach activities throughout his career, and his commitment to P3 Roxbury further highlights his dedication to giving back and empowering the next generation.

Led by the next generation of Black and brown entrepreneurs of Boston, P3 will serve the needs and desires of the Roxbury community by creating deeply affordable homeownership and rental opportunities, good-paying jobs with viable long-term career tracks, meaningful equity participation in the development process by people of color and women, and beautifully designed new spaces to live, work, and play.

About P3 Roxbury

In July 2023, HYM and MyCAP signed a term sheet with the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) for the vacant, 7.7-acre parcel in Roxbury. Once completed, P3 is slated to include 144 affordable homeownership opportunities and 164 affordable rental units, over 700,000 square feet of life science space, and over 45,000 square feet of retail destinations that would elevate local, minority and women owned businesses. The project also features a 10,000 square foot training center that would become the new headquarters of LabCentral Ignite, a subsidiary of life science incubator LabCentral that focuses on enhancing diversity in the life science industry, in addition to a new museum and policy center for Embrace Boston, a 501-c-3 that works to dismantle structural racism at the intersection of arts and culture, community, and research and policy. Embrace Boston’s space at P3 will be a cultural gathering hub that will include a performance hall, museum, and small business incubator. The project expects to generate approximately 1,600 construction jobs and over 2,700 permanent jobs as well.

About My City at Peace:

MyCAP, founded in 2015, is a Boston-based real estate development and programmatic initiative that strengthens distressed communities and helps to bridge the racial wealth gap by using housing as a way to build a sustainable peace in communities of color without displacement. MYCAP and its Principal, Reverend Jeffrey Brown, have more than 30 years of experience in leading community-based violence reduction efforts to bring a sustained reduction of the safety deficit that too many communities of color experience. MYCAP has trained clergy and other community leaders in Boston and around the nation in how to lead evidence-based, collaborative efforts between cities and communities to reduce violent acts. MYCAP builds the structural and cultural conditions for lasting partnerships that help traditionally conflicting constituencies come together for the common good. Recent engagements include working with a major developer in West Chicago to reduce violence and build community partnerships in a large newly redeveloped housing area, and winning designation as a part of a development team in Rochester, NY. In addition, MYCAP has hosted 3 national conferences on violence reduction in inner cities, bringing together faith and community, law enforcement, municipal and academic leaders to discuss the latest strategies and research.
