Seventy-eight boys and girls will compete for nine tournament spots in the qualifier on Monday, August 19, at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md. The UHY Baltimore Junior will follow on Tuesday, August 20, through Thursday, August 22.
Headlining this year’s boys’ field are Finn Watson from Arlington, VA, Bradford Lacefield, a rising junior from Versailles, KY, and Arth Sinha, a rising senior from Oviedo, FL. Watson, a rising junior currently ranked 227th in the Rolex AJGA national rankings, was recently the runner-up at the Babygrande D.C Classic at East Potomac Golf Links and finished T-4 in the Mizuno Junior Championship in Hot Springs, AR, in April. Lacefield, currently ranked 279th in the Rolex AJGA national rankings, recently finished T-6 at the AJGA’s Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior in Ashland, KY, and the 43rd Bubba Conlee Junior in Memphis, TN. Sinha, currently ranked 319th in the Rolex AJGA national rankings, finished T-2 in January at the AJGA’s Discover Puerto Rico Junior Championship.
Leading the girl’s field are Yvette O’Brien, a rising high school senior from Greenwich, CT; Bowen Lan, a rising high school senior from Austin, TX; and Mingyang (Sabrina) Sun, a rising high school freshman from Carlsbad, CA. O’Brien, who has verbally committed to play golf at Texas Christian University and is currently ranked 132 in the Rolex AJGA national rankings, has two recent runner-up finishes at the AJGA Junior at Sandridge in Vero Beach, FL and the AJGA’s Nemacolin Junior Championship in Farmington, PA. O’Brien competed in several UHY Prep Series tournaments earlier in her junior career, including top-ten finishes in Atlanta and Pine Needles – Mid Pines. Lan, currently ranked 154 in the Rolex AJGA national rankings, finished runner-up in the 2023 AJGA NW Arkansas Junior and recently finished seventh in the Patrick Reed AJGA Junior Championship in The Woodlands, TX. Sun, currently ranked 215 in the Rolex AJGA national rankings, recently finished third at the AJGA’s Mizuno Junior Championship in Hot Springs, AR, and finished fourth at the AJGA Junior All-Start at College Station in College Station, TX.
In addition to Watson, the top local boys competing include McLean’s Andrew Hwang, Parkton’s Ryan Hoffner, and Aiden Tudor from Mount Airy. The top local girls competing include Bethesda’s Andie Greenberg and Abigail Avallone, Clarksville’s Michelle Yeung, Woodstock’s Lila Becker, and Joelle Johnson from Bowie.
Juniors earning spots in the field through top finishes at the UHY Prep Series – Baltimore recently held at Turf Valley Resort include Sebastian Botero from Abington, PA, Samson Landers from Little Silver, NJ, Sofia Afable from Pinehurst, NC, and Tsai Yan Chiang from Holmdel, NJ.
The UHY Baltimore Junior will feature 96 of the world’s best juniors from 18 states stretching from Washington to Florida and international players from Canada, China, France, Germany, South Korea, and Taiwan.
