HPM has announced the completion of a renovation and expansion project at Caraway Elementary School, part of Round Rock ISD outside of Austin, Texas. HPM broke ground in May 2023 on the project, which was completed to improve aging building components, enhance security on campus and expand classroom and playground capacities.
Located within the Austin MSA just west of U.S. Route 183, Caraway Elementary School has served students in kindergarten through fifth grade since opening in 1978. HPM’s scope of work included moving the administrative offices from the core of the building to the entrance to improve security; the addition of new classrooms in the space left by the existing administrative areas; the construction of a new rain garden and 3,300-square-foot central utility plant; a new 2,050-square-foot gymnasium stage; playfield and playground expansions; and further renovation work to the roof, boiler and trash enclosure.
“Our longstanding relationship with Round Rock ISD is one that we take great pride in, and this project is an ideal addition to our growing portfolio of K-12 initiatives in Metro Austin,” said HPM President Ryan Austin. “We were fortunate to work with an equally dedicated and skilled general contractor, Bartlett Cocke, which helped to ensure the project remained on track for completion before the start of the new school year. We would also like to thank Principal Jessica Rinehart, as a large part of the success of this project is due to her efficiency and assistance with coordination of multiple departments and project teams.” Additional project partners included Corgan Associates as the design team.
HPM provided program management field services for the project, which is part of a larger nine-year partnership between Round Rock ISD and the firm. HPM has worked on a number of projects in a $500 million capital bond program for the district, including the recent groundbreaking on Austin Community College’s campus for a 46,500-square-foot facility to consolidate all students at Early College High School into one building.
A large portion of the scope for Caraway Elementary was dispersed among two summers, with most of the interior renovation work completed this past summer. HPM worked seven-day weeks and longer shifts to ensure the project stayed on schedule, communicating with several departments within the school to adjust preparations for the start of the school year around construction work. HPM held weekly and daily meetings with the project team and kept constant communication with school officials to mitigate any disruptions.
With a presence throughout the U.S. and a total management portfolio value of more than $1 billion annually, HPM has established itself as one of the industry’s leading program managers and owner’s representative companies with an extensive portfolio of projects in Texas’ K-12 education system. HPM is also working on a number of projects as part of a $280 million bond program for Manor ISD, including a new elementary school, a new K-8 campus, a new Early College High School, a transportation facility, and four new athletic facilities.
