Maryland’s largest credit union’s CEO and president honored with prestigious award

David Sweiderk, president and CEO of SECU, Maryland’s largest credit union, has been named to The Daily Record’s 2024-2025 Power 100 List. For the fourth consecutive year, the publication has recognized 100 men and women who play a positive role in Maryland’s culture, lifestyle, civic conversations, and economic development.

The Power 100 List highlights leaders from a range of industries, including finance, healthcare, higher education, and more. The honorees are acknowledged for their ability to navigate rapid technological advancements, address social challenges, and prepare Maryland for an increasingly competitive future. Selected by The Daily Record’s editorial leadership team, the list reflects the diverse and influential leadership shaping the state.

Sweiderk has led SECU for more than six years, drawing on more than 25 years of experience in managing high-performing organizations. Known for his exceptional business and financial expertise, he is celebrated for developing and enhancing consumer and business product solutions. Under his leadership, SECU has leveraged cutting-edge technology to deliver integrated services, creating optimal customer experiences at an exceptional value.

Most recently, SECU completed its fifth annual Kindness Campaign. Under his leadership and with his unwavering support, SECU surpassed its goal of 500,000 acts of kindness, partnering with community organizations including the University System of Maryland, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Special Olympics of Maryland, the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland, WBAL TV, and the University of Maryland Athletics.

Among other honors, Sweiderk has also been named to The Daily Record’s 2022- 2023 and 2023-2024 lists of Influential Marylanders, the 2020 Most Admired CEO list, and SECU was honored by Forbes as one of the Best-In-State Credit Unions for 2022 and 2024.
