Empowering Careers At Maris Grove

Erickson Senior Living, one of the nation’s top 5 largest senior living providers in the United States, is setting a new standard for employee growth and professional development. With a commitment to fostering careers for life, Erickson Senior Living offers team members an engaging workplace experience and the resources to advance their careers across its 20+ communities nationwide, including Maris Grove, in Glen Mills, Pa.

At the heart of this mission are the Career Expos hosted by Erickson Senior Living communities like Maris Grove. These dynamic events provide employees with a one-stop shop to explore opportunities, connect with leaders, and gain inspiration from peers who have climbed the ranks within the organization.

One such inspiring story comes from Kareem Young, who began his Erickson Senior Living journey in 2017 as a line cook at Maris Grove. Today, Kareem serves as the Executive Chef of the Woodside Grille at Maris Grove, a role he achieved through hard work, mentorship, and the professional development resources offered by the company.

“When I started, I had aspirations to become a chef,” Kareem reflects. “I was fortunate to have mentors like Justin Pearsall, Dan Lessard, and Maureen Iannucci who supported me. They guided me through leadership training, management courses, and culinary development programs like online classes. Those experiences were pivotal in my growth from a line cook to an executive chef.”

Kareem’s journey is a testament to Erickson Senior Living’s commitment to employee development. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and tailored training programs, employees are equipped with the tools they need to succeed. The enterprise’s robust benefits package includes reimbursement for college, trade schools, and certifications in some areas.

Kareem credits his exposure to various kitchens within the community and relationships with residents and colleagues for his professional growth.

“It’s more than just a job—it feels like a family here,” Kareem shares. “The relationships I’ve built are strong, and there’s a real sense of support. That’s what makes Erickson Senior Living special.”

Kareem’s story is not unique. With more than 30,000 residents and 16,000 employees across the country, Erickson Senior Living continues to create pathways for advancement, inspiring team members to achieve their career goals. From culinary arts and healthcare to administration and facilities management, the organization’s Career Expos highlight the diverse opportunities available to employees.

“I’ve seen colleagues grow and relocate to other communities, and that inspires me,” Kareem adds. “I want to bring my expertise to another community someday while continuing to develop myself and help others grow.”

Erickson Senior Living’s investment in its workforce extends beyond career advancement. The organization prides itself on providing competitive benefits, work-life balance, and a culture that values collaboration and innovation.

“Our goal is to provide our talented and diverse team members with a meaningful work experience that matches their interests and goals,” said Nicole Walker, Chief Human Resources Officer for Erickson Senior Living. “This is why we created the 2024 Internal Career Expo Series across the enterprise. As a growth company with a bright future, we strive to be an employer of choice by providing our team members with the resources to cultivate the career they personally desire at Erickson Senior Living.”
