The outdoor retail landscape in Sarasota is set for a shake-up as L.L. Bean prepares to open its inaugural Florida store. The Maine-based outfitter will be located at 111 North Cattleman Road in University Town Center’s West District, placing it just a few doors down from rival REI Co-op, which established its presence in 2023. An L.L. Bean representative indicated a target opening in early May for the nearly 17,000-square-foot store, previously occupied by the now-bankrupt Bed, Bath & Beyond.
This move marks a significant expansion for the privately held, family-owned company, founded in 1912 and initially known for its iconic Maine hunting shoe. With over 50 stores across 18 states, L.L. Bean’s arrival promises increased competition in the local market for clothing, outdoor gear, and adventure services.
