Michael Ostrove, DLA Piper’s Global Co-Chair of International Arbitration, has been appointed Vice-President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration.
Michael is a member of both the Paris and New York bars and has over 25 years’ experience handling international commercial arbitrations, investment arbitrations and other public international law disputes, as well as domestic litigation, primarily related to enforcement and annulment of arbitral awards. He has long been recognised as a leading figure in the arbitration community and routinely acts as lead counsel in investment disputes on behalf of both Sovereign States and investors. Michael also teaches international arbitration in an advanced degree programme at the Université de Paris II, and is one of the editors of Choice of Venue in International Arbitration (OUP, 2014).
The announcement follows the appointment of new President Claudia T. Salomon who takes over from President Alexis Mourre. Ms Salomon was formally elected on 11 June by ICC’s supreme governing body, the World Council and is supported in her role by the ICC Court – comprising 195 members from 121 countries and including 17 Vice-Presidents. The ICC Court’s 2021-2024 mandate began on 1 July 2021. Ms Salomon’s election marks a milestone in the ICC Court’s almost 100-year history as she is the first woman to become President of the world’s preferred arbitral institution.
Commenting on his appointment, Michael Ostrove said “I’m honored to have been selected as one of the new VPs, supporting Claudia Salomon in her role as President. I look forward to working with the most gender and geographically diverse ICC Court makeup in history, as well as with the incredibly talented and hard-working members of the Secretariat led by Alex Fessas. We will all be building on the tremendous success of the ICC Court under Alexis Mourre’s leadership.”
