Lantern-making workshops planned at mixed-use destination leading up to community event
WHAT: On Saturday, August 14, the Krewe of Grateful Gluttons returns to Colony Square in Midtown Atlanta to host its third annual Parliament of Owls Lantern Parade, an elegantly weird, black and white owl-themed lantern parade led by local artist Chantelle Rytter and The Black Sheep Ensemble. Stepping off from The Plaza at Colony Square at 9 p.m., participants will glide along a flight path traveling down Crescent Ave and making a nearly one-mile loop before returning to the mixed-use destination via Peachtree Street.
Ahead of the event, interested participants are invited to create their own lanterns this week during DIY community workshops planned with the Krewe on August 11 and 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. on The Patio at Colony Square, the outdoor seating area connected to the new Politan Row food hall. There will be a limited amount of complimentary owl mask prints for guests, otherwise lantern-making kits will be available for purchase for $15-$25. All craft accessories will be provided, including scissors, glue and instructions. For those unable to attend the workshops, kits can also be purchased at Shep’s Midtown Ace Hardware from August 7-14, and complimentary DIY owl masks can be downloaded from the event website.
The Black Sheep Ensemble will play live tunes in The Plaza until 10 p.m. Following the parade, participants are invited to linger on The Square while enjoying food and beverage from Politan Row.
With the recent resurgence of COVID cases in mind, guests are encouraged to flock smartly – walk behind the band, keep six feet between you and fellow owls, stay home if you’re sick, wear a mask and follow the most recent CDC guidelines. For full event details, visit colonysquare.com/parliament-
