DLA Piper is pleased to announce that New York Chair of Intellectual Property and Technology Tamar Duvdevani has been named a 2021 Law360 Intellectual Property MVP. Duvdevani was one of just six IPT attorneys nationwide selected by Law360 for its annual list of MVPs, and the only woman selected in the group. The list highlights “elite” attorneys who “have distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals.”
Asked for her biggest accomplishment from the last year, Duvdevani told Law360 that she is most proud of, “how much the firm has expanded over the last decade, and how prominently women have factored into that expansion.” She added, “The depth of our bench and the quality of lawyers who practice in this space — the brands and companies we’ve been representing over those past few years — has really gone to a place where it’s hard not to be really proud of what me, my partners and associates have accomplished.”
The publication highlighted Duvdevani’s representation of Dr. Seuss Enterprises in the Ninth Circuit in a copyright case that she said is “part of the pendulum’s swing away from federal courts’ willingness to broadly protect copyright infringers under the Fair Use Doctrine.” Law360 also noted her new role as co- chair of the Consumer Goods and Retail subsector of the Consumer Goods, Food and Retail sector.
In her practice, Duvdevani has broad experience with disputes involving trademarks and trade dress, copyrights, right of publicity, false advertising, as well as other commercial litigation matters such as complex contract/licensing disputes and arbitrations. She regularly provides guidance to retailers, media and consumer products companies on a variety of intellectual property and other legal issues important to their industries.
