Karen Doyle, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, has been named Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Doyle brings more than 35 years of nursing experience to the role, including 15 years leading key emergency nursing, care management and patient experience initiatives at UMMC.
Most recently, Doyle served as Senior Vice President of Nursing and Operations at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at UMMC, Maryland’s Primary Adult Resource Center (PARC) serving more than 7,500 critically ill and severely injured patients annually. Additionally, she shared a significant leadership role in the medical center’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine rollout.
As UMMC’s CNO, Doyle will continue her career-long dedication to advancing nursing practice, patient outcomes and research.

Doyle holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and a Master’s of Business Administration from Loyola University, Baltimore. In addition, to her clinical and administrative responsibilities, Doyle serves as faculty associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She is also a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and serves as a member of the Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital Center’s board of directors.
