BayCoast Bank recently donated 15 lock boxes to the Bristol Police Department’s Lock Box Program, one that according to Bristol Police Sergeant Ricardo Mourato “has been a great success in our community.”
Sonia T. Couto, Assistant Treasurer Branch Manager, and Olga Fernandes, Assistant Branch Manager of the Bristol location, presented the lock boxes to Sergeant Mourato, who heads the program.
Police, fire, and rescue personnel frequently respond to emergency calls involving elderly and disabled residents. If a person needing medical assistance is unable to open the door, first responders are forced to wait for a key holder, find an open window to climb through, or break their way through a door to gain access to the person in need.
First responders can now utilize a real estate-type lockbox, which is typically fixed to a door or other object on the property and opened by a numerical or alphabetical code. The homeowner provides a key to be secured in the lockbox. The box location, box code, and which door to be unlocked are kept on a secured police dispatch site file.
When a resident in need contacts the police department, the dispatcher enters the address into the system and if that residence has a lockbox installed, the location, code and door information is shown.
Since implementing the Lock Box Program in November 2016, the Bristol Police Department has installed 120 lockboxes.
“This would not have been possible without the sponsorship of local businesses and non-profits,” said Sgt. Mourato. “I would like to thank BayCoast Bank for the donation of 15 lockboxes and to also welcome them into the community.”
BayCoast Bank recently opened its Bristol location at 601 Hope Street.
“It’s a privilege to support this important safety program and this is one of several ways we plan to contribute to the Bristol community,” said Nicholas M. Christ, President and CEO of BayCoast Bank.
