As senior director of communications at Visit Philadelphia, Nguyen executes media relations along all of Visit Philadelphia’s storylines, generating positive coverage for the destination in various media channels. In collaboration with her colleagues, Nguyen helps lead the communications team’s planning and execution strategies, effectively reaching and engaging the organization’s target travel audiences.
Nguyen focuses on the following key verticals: culinary, live music and festivals, parks and outdoors, government affairs and key Visit Philadelphia initiatives.
Beyond her work at Visit Philadelphia, Nguyen serves as director-at-large on the Temple University Alumni Association board, where she actively fosters a strong alumni network and enhances the university’s legacy. Nguyen has also found a passion for sharing her love of food and culture through her popular @Philly_Sushi Instagram page. Q1: You joined Visit Philadelphia as the Senior Director of Communications back in February. What is it that drew you to the organization?
Q2: What are some of the highlights from your first summer in this new role?
Q3: As the summer begins to wind down, I know the entire city is excited for a vibrant fall season. What are some of the big projects and events you’re working on right now that should be on our radars?
Q4: Like other major urban areas in the United States, Philadelphia is not without its challenges. Businesses and the local economy are still rebounding from the pandemic, violent crime remains at historic highs. How have the tourism and hospitality industries in the city handled these challenges, and what are some examples of resilience you have witnessed from them?
Q5: Commercial real estate has been another challenge plaguing cities across the U.S. In Philadelphia, office vacancies remain high with hybrid and remote work becoming the norm, and the reduced foot traffic as a result has certainly had an impact on local dining. What are local restaurants doing to attract business in this new climate?
Q6: Football season is right around the corner, and after winning the NFC championship last season, the Philadelphia Eagles look like they could be even better this year. There is so much excitement throughout the city for this team. Can you tell me how businesses across the city plan to capitalize on the Eagles season and all of the excitement that comes with it?
Q7: The communications field is undergoing massive changes right now – with the swift adaptation of artificial intelligence and a new era of both traditional media and social media underway. What advice would you give to the next generation of comms professionals who want to break into this field?
