CEO and founder of Coral Gables Trust Company James W. Davidson (Jim) and his wife Deborah were recognized as pillars of the South Florida community on October 23rd by the Coral Gables Community Foundation.
The Foundation bestowed its prestigious Community Award to the couple who have dramatically impacted the community and inspired countless others by making community service and philanthropy a hallmark of both their company and personal lives.
“We are humbled and honored to be acknowledged by the Coral Gables Community Foundation with this award,” said Jim Davidson. “When you give and have a heart of giving, you come to realize that you give not only to people in need, but to other people involved in the organization who are impacted as well. We will continue to support organizations that make a difference in our community and help pave the way for making this world a better place for all.”
“Our mission at Coral Gables Trust Company is to support the people and communities in which we operate by providing leadership and financial support through our Firm, our employees and directors, to over 30 local non-profits and over 10 national institutions, of which I am extremely proud,” added Davidson.
For years the Davidsons have been involved in several charities. Jim Davidson is currently a member of the Board of Overseers of The Hoover Institution at Stanford University, and the Board of Trustees and Advisors of Marion Military Institute. From 1995 to 2000, he served as a director of the Florida Venture Capital forum and in 1998 served as its chairman. He was also on the Board of Trustees and a member of the executive committee of Palmer Trinity School, Board of Directors of the Plymouth Congregational Church Foundation and a board member of Informed Families.
Deborah Davidson, soon after moving to Miami, embraced volunteer work within the Women’s Cancer Association, the Junior League of Miami, Children’s Home Society, Beaux Arts, and Young Patronesses of the Opera. She chaired Chapman Partnership’s first annual fundraising gala in 2002 and then went on to be the founding chair of Womenade, a fundraising initiative for Chapman Partnership benefitting the women and children residing in homeless shelters.
The award was presented by Coral Gables Community Foundation board member, and Gala Co-Chair, Sissy DeMaria-Koehne, at the “A Gables Odyssey” Gala.
The Coral Gables Community Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization has been at the forefront of the evolving needs of Coral Gables while effectively bringing together beneficiaries and benefactors to fund programs with the greatest impact and benefit to “The City Beautiful.” The Foundation’s time-honored gala was transformed that evening into a “Homeric,” in-home entertainment and fine dining experience, where the City’s most gracious hosts and hostesses opened their exquisite homes and gardens in support of the pivotal work of the Coral Gables Community Foundation.
“I have known Jim and Deborah for years and they have a heart of gold. It made perfect sense to honor two people making such a dramatic impact in this community that are selfless and always offer a helping hand to others,” said Mary Snow, CEO of the Coral Gables Community Foundation. “This year’s celebration was definitely a highlight and an absolute privilege paying tribute to these pillars of our community. Coral Gables Trust Company were the matching gift sponsor of our gala.”
