Stanley Martin Homes Breaks Ground on New Carver Square Development in Richmond

Downtown Condos Expected to Open for Sale in Early 2022

Stanley Martin Homes, one of the leading homebuilders in the Southeastern U.S., officially broke ground on its first downtown Richmond neighborhood, Carver Square. Located blocks from Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) Siegel Center and directly across from Maggie Walker Governor’s School, the new neighborhood will contribute to the ongoing revitalization efforts in the Carver area and will feature 90 brand new, two-over-two style garage condominiums on roughly two acres of land at the corner of Moore and Lombardy streets. Carver Square will be highly walkable and offer convenient access to VCU, Virginia Union University, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum District, the James River, as well as popular city spots like The Fan, Scott’s Addition and Carytown. The first residents are expected to move in by the end of 2022.

Carver Square held a special groundbreaking ceremony on October 6th showcasing what an exciting and welcome residential development this project is. The ceremony was attended by several esteemed local representatives, including Richmond City Councilmember Katherine Jordan, Councilmember Liaison Sven Philipsen; Carver Area Civic Improvement League members: Doug Kleffner, Barbara Payne and League President Jerome Legions; Richmond City School Board Member Mariah White; as well as representatives from Sylvia Place Properties, the original owners of the land.

Growing above the state and national rates, Richmond is one of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Places to Live in the U.S.,” based on its high marks in housing affordability, a healthy job market, high quality of life, low commute times, desirability of living there and overall migration growth into the area.

“Richmond is so unique because of its rich history and continuous innovation, and we are thrilled that Carver Square will mirror both of those elements through its brand new, urban condos situated in a historic part of downtown in the Carver community,” said Jeremy Swink, Stanley Martin’s Vice President of Land in the Richmond Division. “Whether you are an academic or outdoorsy, a foodie or a fan of the arts, downtown Richmond can deliver in spades. We know our residents will love living here, and we are excited to continue watching the culture of this area evolve.”

Residents of Carver Square will enjoy neighborhood amenities including a dog park, picnic area with grilling station and bike parking. Ranging from 1,500 square feet to 2,500 square feet in size, each home within this new neighborhood is designed with open concept floor plans, outdoor spaces including rooftop terraces and low-maintenance exteriors. Prices for the garage condominiums will be available later this year.

In addition to the new Carver Square development, Reston-based builder Stanley Martin Homes recently acquired the operations and assets of Florida-based homebuilder Avex Homes. The company also celebrated being named Builder Magazine’s “2021 Builder of the Year” based on its growth, customer service and innovation in moving the housing industry forward during the previous year.
