The Kalb Report: In Search of Truth to Air on November 20

What:  Maryland Public Television (MPT) will broadcast the first installment of Season 14 of The Kalb Report. During The Kalb Report: In Search of Truth, host Marvin Kalb and his distinguished guests explore the state of American democracy and the news media’s role in sustaining democratic governance.

“Without that commonly accepted understanding of basic truths, basic facts on which we base our government’s decisions, how do we maintain and then sustain a viable, functioning democracy?” asks Kalb. This burning question drives the discussion throughout the 60-minute program.

When/Where: The Kalb Report: In Search of Truth will make its broadcast debut on Saturday, November 20 at 7 p.m. on MPT-HD and will repeat on Sunday, December 26 at 3 p.m. The program will also be available to watch via MPT’s livestream at mpt.org/livestream. It is currently available to view on-demand at video.mpt.tv and on the PBS Video App.

Who:  Host Marvin Kalb will be joined during the program by PBS NewsHour Anchor and Managing Editor Judy Woodruff, Washington Post Columnist Eugene Robinson, and legendary ABC News Anchor Ted Koppel.

Marvin Kalb is Edward R. Murrow Professor Emeritus at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and senior advisor to the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. Over his distinguished journalism career, Mr. Kalb served as chief diplomatic correspondent for CBS News and NBC News and moderator of Meet the Press. He went on to serve as the founding director of Harvard’s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy.

Program Notes: Through conversations with leaders who shape media, public policy and culture in America, the distinguished journalist Marvin Kalb explores the vital role of the press in our democracy and the transformation of journalism in the 21st century. Previous guests on The Kalb Report have included U.S. Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, Rupert Murdoch, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Christiane Amanpour, Walter Cronkite, Hillary Clinton, Roger Ailes, Bob Costas, Ken Burns, Judy Woodruff, Gwen Ifill, Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel, Cokie Roberts, and Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins.

MPT has served as presenting station for this production since 2019. It is distributed nationally by American Public Television and seen on public TV stations across the country.
