Pro Tips For A Successful Night At Johnny’s Hideaway

Long-time Staff Members Share Pointers for Navigating the Iconic Nightclub

Johnny’s Hideaway opened its doors in 1979 and has been guaranteeing Atlantans a good time ever since. On any given night, old-timers to 20- and 30-somethings can be found mingling, dancing, and having a good time at this Atlanta hotspot. Having been around for so many years, it is no surprise that long-time staff members have mastered the art of ensuring a perfect night at Johnny’s Hideaway. With vast experience and behind-the-scenes knowledge, these staff members share their master list of pro tips for the ideal night at “Atlanta’s ONLY nightclub for big kids.”

Bartender – When it’s busy, guests should just order a Red Bull and vodka like everyone else and always be ready to order with a credit card or have the cash to run a tab. Bad moves are waving, whistling or snapping fingers to get a bartender’s attention.

Server – While most guests never leave the bar area and dance floor, they can reserve a table between 7-8:30 p.m. If guests see an open table, they should check with the guys at the door for seating.

Door – Whether 22 or 92, Johnny’s checks everyone’s ID so guests should be prepared and bring a government-issued ID. And it’s always a good idea to dress for the weather in case there’s a wait.

DJ – Johnny’s plays the hits from the 1960s through the 2000s, and fans definitely have their favorites. Guests should understand that the club does not have an unlimited music library and is not a jukebox.

Customer – If guests are trying to meet someone, they should ask them to dance or buy them a drink.  Many couples have met at the iconic nightclub. And to ensure you make it back to Johnny’s, always make plans to get home safely. Call a friend or take an Uber.

Kitchen – All that dancing can work up an appetite. Many don’t know that Johnny’s serves food, and the kitchen stays open late. And the menu favorite, Johnny’s cheesesteak, is always a tasty idea.

Manager – Following a few rules at Johnny’s ensures everyone has a great time. Guests should always remember: No drinks on the dance floor, look out for your friends and show respect for older guests while they ballroom dance earlier in the evening.

Owner – Last but not least, longtime owner Chris D’Auria knows it takes time to fully appreciate the Johnny’s experience. As he likes to say, “Just give us 15 minutes, order a drink and start dancing.”
