Retired Judge Andrew Peck Receives Lifetime Achievement in eDiscovery Award

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that former United States Magistrate Judge Andrew J. Peck, a senior counsel at the firm, has received the 2022 Honorable Shira Scheindlin Lifetime Achievement in eDiscovery Hero Award as part of the eDiscovery Hero Awards presented by Zapproved.

The eDiscovery Hero Awards honor legal professionals who demonstrate excellence in e-discovery, legal operations and litigation response. The Lifetime Achievement Award honors a single individual in the eDiscovery community whose actions over the lifetime of their careers have significantly influenced and elevated the practice of eDiscovery.

“Judge Peck’s selection for the Lifetime Achievement Award was a classic ‘no brainer,’” said the Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin. “It is obvious to the entire legal profession that Judge Peck has done as much or more than any other judicial officer to shape the way in which the discovery of electronically stored information (ESI) is handled by clients and lawyers throughout the United States and – it is fair to say – throughout the world. While he was one of the earliest judges to recognize the urgency and importance of setting the ground rules for this new area of law, he is best known for legitimizing what is now widely recognized as the gold standard for search and review – TAR (technology assisted review). He was and is a visionary who was and is always ahead of his time. This award is richly deserved!”

“The Honorable Shira Scheindlin Lifetime Achievement Award is the highlight of the annual eDiscovery Hero Awards, and we are delighted to honor Judge Peck as this year’s recipient,” said Jennifer Bantelman, Vice President of Customer Experience & Thought Leadership at Zapproved. “This award recognizes individuals in the eDiscovery community whose actions over the lifetime of their careers have significantly influenced and elevated eDiscovery, and there is no doubt of the significance of Judge Peck’s impact, which can be seen throughout the entire legal field and practice of eDiscovery.”

Judge Peck served for 23 years as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of New York, including a term as Chief Magistrate Judge from 2004 to 2005. Since joining DLA Piper in April 2018, Judge Peck has advised on innovative and efficient solutions to the challenges of information management, both within and outside the litigation context, and maintains a substantive practice in intellectual property litigation. Judge Peck is also available to serve as an arbitrator, mediator and court-appointed special discovery master.
