Sandra Salstrom Joins Social Finance as VP, Government Relations

BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, Social Finance, the national impact finance and advisory nonprofit, announced that Sandra Salstrom will lead its Washington, D.C.-based government partnerships as Vice President, Government Relations.

Salstrom began her career in Congress as press secretary for former Massachusetts Rep. Marty Meehan and former North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy. At the start of the Obama administration, she transitioned to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where she worked for seven years and rose to the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs. Salstrom most recently worked as a legislative representative for the American Federation of Government Employees.

In her new role at Social Finance, Salstrom will work with government partners at the federal, state, and local levels to advance the nonprofit’s mission to measurably improve lives. Her arrival comes as Social Finance embarks on a number of exciting new government engagements, including collaborating with state governments and local workforce funders to create self-sustaining pools of job training dollars called Pay It Forward Funds.

“We’ve always partnered with federal, state, and local governments. Now, with Sandra, we look to deepen those relationships while creating new connections in Washington where some of our biggest levers for transformative social change are,” Social Finance CEO and Co-Founder Tracy Palandjian said. “Sandra’s experience will be indispensable.”

“Social Finance has a track record of taking on big problems with the goal of improving lives and a lot of lawmakers share that same goal,” Salstrom said. “I’m excited to collaborate with policymakers on both sides of the aisle in Congress and the administration to use data and our innovative financing tools to help people, particularly those most in need.”

Social Finance has pioneered a set of innovative outcomes-based funding strategies in the U.S. over the past decade, including the Social Impact Bond. The organization launched the first-ever Career Impact Bond in 2019. Founded in 2011, Social Finance has a team of more than 90 people with offices in Boston, Austin, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.
