Alumni Ventures Named World’s Third Most Active VC Firm by PitchBook

MANCHESTER, N.H.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Capital market analyst and intelligence company PitchBook has named Alumni Ventures as the third most active venture capital firm globally.

The new rankings place Alumni Ventures behind only Gaingels and Tiger Global Management, testifying to the sizable portfolio of over 900 companies that the firm has invested in since its founding in 2014. It also reflects the company’s rapid pace in 2021, with AV participating in 351 deals, and the firm’s portfolio companies raising over $25 billion in total over the course of the year.

AV’s Chief Investment Officer Anton Simunovic applauded the news: “It’s remarkable to me that our disciplined, process-based venture model has allowed Alumni Ventures to be ranked third globally when we are still largely a U.S.-based venture investor. And while the number of investments is remarkable, it’s our investment quality that really impresses me. Markets are efficient, and venture capitalists vote with their pocketbooks.”

Unlike conventional VC firms which raise their funding from institutions, Alumni Ventures focuses on democratizing access to venture capital for individual accredited investors. To date, over 7,500 investors have committed capital with the firm. As Simunovic noted, “It’s clear Alumni Ventures has tapped an unmet need of providing accredited investors access to professional-grade venture investments. We believe venture is too important an asset class to be left to institutions alone.”

Another differentiator for Alumni Ventures is its sizable community of 600,000 subscribers and supporters. These connections bring together diverse entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and innovation enthusiasts.

It is AV’s innovative business model and vast network of engaged community members that Simunovic credits with propelling the firm in PitchBook’s rankings. He observed, “We participate in so many investments because we’re invited by CEOs and VCs into their rounds. Our community is unrivaled, and we’re pleased to bring our network-powered venture model to their service.”

Prior to this latest report, Alumni Ventures was ranked by PitchBook as the most active VC firm in the United States in 2020.
