We’ve got you covered. There’s a lot going on in the crypto world these days, as applications of blockchain technology across cryptocurrency and more are becoming increasingly mainstream. But with all the fervor on social media about Web3 and the future of a decentralized internet, it’s easy to get lost in a swirl of new vocabulary. There’s plenty of slang to be learned (some of it as simple as crypto enthusiasts using “gm” for “good morning”), but there are also a lot of technical terms that can be intimidating if you’re a newcomer to the field.
So we took the liberty of rounding up the terms we’ve seen the most that will hopefully clarify at least some of what’s going on in this new frontier for the internet.
Definitions are compiled based on past Technical.ly reporting, as well as resources published by the New York Times, New York Magazine and Investopedia. We plan to update this glossary with new terms and evolving definitions as needed. Have ideas for others we should add? Send ’em to sophie@technical.ly.
