Renovation of 216 Affordable Housing Apartments Celebrated with Ribbon Cutting
NEI General Contracting, an award-winning affordable housing general contractor, announced today that it has completed the renovation of Azure Estates (formerly known as Stonybrook Apartments) in Riviera Beach, Florida. The completion was commemorated with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Azure Estates Community Center on Martin Luther King Boulevard on April 8th.
The $18 million rehabilitation transformed living conditions and preserved the affordability of 216 apartments. Developed by The Millennia Companies® (Millennia) and designed by Dimit Architects, LLC, upgrades included new kitchens and baths, flooring, paint, and finishes, as well as HVAC systems and fire sprinkler suppression system. A new community center was also built to support the ever-growing resident services programs. Before the renovations, more than 100 Riviera Beach families lived in horrible conditions with mold, leaky roofs, and rat and roach-infested apartments.

This is NEI’s fifth project with Millennia, having most recently completed Valencia Way in Jacksonville, Florida. The project involved life safety and quality of life improvements including new flooring, walls, appliances, ceiling fans, and central air.
The project was financed from bonds issued by the state, low-income housing tax credits, and housing and urban development rental subsidy programs. Azure Estates is 100% affordable housing. Residents pay 30% of their income toward rent as part of a federal Housing and Urban Development subsidy program.
