Angel Cortiñas and Jonathan Kaskel Join Dentons as Partners

Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, announces today that Angel Cortiñas and Jonathan Kaskel have joined the Firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice as partners. Cortiñas, who served on his prior firm’s board of directors and as co-chair of its appellate group, will serve as managing partner of the Firm’s Miami office. The addition of this strong litigation team in South Florida supports the Firm’s efforts to serve our many client needs in South Florida and provide legal services to help with the growth, protection and operation of their businesses.

Cortiñas is a preeminent trial lawyer and appellate advocate. Cortiñas has tried more than 30 jury trials in private practice and as an Assistant US Attorney. As a federal prosecutor, he was the lead trial lawyer in the US Attorney’s Office’s investigation and prosecution of the largest fraud case in US history. He played the same role in the most comprehensive healthcare fraud investigation ever undertaken by the federal government. Cortiñas also served as a prominent appellate judge on Florida’s 3rd District Court of Appeals for more than eight years, and is an accomplished appellate advocate.

Kaskel too brings exceptional talent to Dentons. He has a diverse litigation practice centered on complex commercial disputes, including insurance litigation, class action litigation and white collar defense. He represents clients ranging from insurance companies, to state and national banks, to developers, to lawyers facing claims of malpractice, in trials and with appeals.

“We have strategically focused efforts on expanding our litigation group in Miami, a growing city with a booming legal market,” said Sandra Hauser, head of the US Commercial Litigation practice. “Adding sought-after talent like Angel and Jonathan to our litigation team allows us to meet client needs in South Florida while also giving them the benefits of access to Dentons’ resources in other markets across our global footprint, including the Caribbean and Central and South America.”

“The addition of this impressive litigation team in Miami strengthens our ability to do complex cross-border work for clients with business interests in the US and across Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Paloma Gomez, Dentons CEO for Latin America and the Caribbean. “We look forward to collaborating with Angel and Jonathan, and to help our clients grow, protect and operate their businesses as their needs take them into this important jurisdiction.”

“Expanding our Miami presence is a goal of the Firm and of strategic importance to many of our practice areas,” said Sonia Martin, Dentons’ US Chief Executive Officer. “Given the emphasis on cross-border opportunities with the LAC region, and Miami’s significance as a gateway to this burgeoning market, building our presence here is critical. Angel and Jonathan exemplify the caliber of legal talent that will continue our growth trajectory in Miami and other strategic markets.”
