Rebecca Murphy and Pauline Harris join forces to tell RCM’s story of what it takes to build an economic engine
Rebecca Murphy, an experienced consultant and real estate developer specializing in economic and community development, philanthropy, and work with nonprofit organizations, has retained the services of Pauline Harris, Owner/Principal of
SPIN LLC, a marketing and public relations consulting firm with a concentration in integrated marketing for the built environment. Pauline applies 35 years of industry experience to small and large firms seeking regional and national presence.
Rebecca is an expert at assisting organizations, municipalities, and communities identify collaborative solutions that result in stronger, more equitable systems. “We believe that everyone deserves access to a vibrant community – a place that has a thriving local economy, is rich in character, and features inviting public spaces that make residents and visitors feel that they belong”, stated Ms. Murphy.
Her areas of practice include planning and placemaking, economic and community development, strategic communication, organizational development, capacity building, community outreach and engagement. Rebecca’s approach is to foster entrepreneurship and homegrown business development, which has proven to be a very promising strategy in a wide variety of rural settings. Entrepreneurs represent the human capital that can convert rural assets into economic opportunity. There are a range of approaches—economic gardening, entrepreneurship development systems, hometown competitiveness, enterprise facilitation—that encourage and support entrepreneurship.
“I started this business and public policy consultancy to provide individualized, mission-focused direction to organizations seeking to increase their capacity, develop government relations, improve community development, and assist in fundraising strategies. It is most important to me to do good work and make a difference to the businesses I represent and the communities they serve.”
In addition to her professional experience, Rebecca believes in the power of community service and civic engagement, serving on boards including the Neighborhood Design Center and St. Ignatius Loyola Academy in her native Baltimore, and the United Way of Kent County, Rebuilding Together Kent County, and the Garfield Center for the Performing Arts in Chestertown, MD, where she now lives and works. Rebecca is the daughter of the late Betty Jean Murphy, the first Black Real Estate Developer in Baltimore, and credits her with instilling the value of empowering communities through work and service.
