Tompkins Community Bank announced that Ginger Kunkel has been promoted to president of the bank’s Pennsylvania market. Previously, Kunkel served as chief operating officer. In her new role, she is responsible for the bank’s growth, operations and administration throughout its Pennsylvania market as well as fostering relationships with clients of Tompkins insurance and wealth affiliates.
Kunkel, most recently of Wyomissing, PA, joined Tompkins in December 2021 in anticipation of becoming the bank’s market leader following the retirement of former President Scott Gruber this month. A 32-year veteran in financial services, she is well known throughout the banking community for her expertise in commercial, retail, operational and executive management. She came to Tompkins from Riverview Bank and Riverview Financial Corporation, where she was SEVP and chief operating officer and oversaw all revenue-producing lines of business including commercial, retail, trust, and wealth management. Prior to Riverview, she worked in Berks and Lehigh counties as a senior commercial relationship manager for Susquehanna Bank with expertise in commercial & industrial lending.
“Ginger has a proven record of excellence as a community banker and leader,” said Stephen Romaine, president and CEO of Tompkins Financial Corporation. “With her collaborative style, focus on building relationships, and knowledge of financial services, she is the ideal person to build on our success in Pennsylvania.”
Kunkel is a graduate of the ABA’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking and University of Pennsylvania’s affiliated Wharton Leadership program. Additionally, she attended the PA Bankers Association Advanced Commercial Lending School and Advanced School of Banking. She was recently recognized on PA Business Central’s 2021 list of Women Making a Difference and was included on the Lehigh Valley Business Journal’s Power 100 List for 2022. She is a past recipient of the Woman of Distinction Award from Soroptimist International.
Active in the community, she has served as a board member and volunteer for many non-profit and civic organizations, including Boy Scouts of America, the Fresh Air Fund, Habitat for Humanity, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the West Brunswick (Schuylkill County) Planning Commission. She was recently appointed to the board of the PA Bankers Services Corporation, where her digital expertise will help the organization evaluate fintech solutions available to community banks.
