Howard County General Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, announces the appointment of Dr. David E. Kanter as medical director of the hospital’s Lundy Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, effective Sept. 6, 2022. As medical director, Kanter will be responsible for the state-of-the art Level III+ unit and work with nursing leadership to develop and refine protocols and clinical guidelines. Additionally, he will work collaboratively with the high-risk obstetrical service.
For the past 18 years, Kanter has served as a neonatologist in the NICU of Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. A champion for quality improvement, Kanter has served as the quality improvement chair for pediatrics at Sinai Hospital and is the current neonatal chair of the Maryland Perinatal-Neonatal Quality Collaborative.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton, he earned his medical degree from the State University of New York – Health Science Center at Brooklyn. Subsequently, Kanter completed his pediatric residency and a neonatology fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
