The fifth $10,000 scholarship awarded to a Washington, D.C. student concludes the five-year, $50,000 scholarship program sponsored by COPT, Akridge, and Argos Group as part of the 2100 L Street Development
Corporate Office Properties Trust (NYSE: OFC) (COPT), Akridge, and Argos Group today announced the final recipient of the Thaddeus Stevens School Scholarship. Mikalei Miller from the Thurgood Marshall Public Charter School was selected as the fifth and final recipient of the $10,000 scholarship. Mikaeli was presented with the scholarship at 2100 L Street on June 27.
This initiative was introduced as part of the 2100 L Street project, a trophy office property in Washington, D.C., jointly developed by COPT, Akridge, and Argos Group. Beyond delivering premier office space with unique features and architecture, the partners wanted to contribute to the community where this property is located.
The scholarship program pays homage to the historic Thaddeus Stevens School that sits adjacent to the 2100 L Street building. The school was renovated as part of the 2100 L Street project and honors the legacy of former U.S. Congressman and anti-slavery activist, Thaddeus Stevens. Over the last five years, a total of $50,000 in scholarships was awarded to five D.C. students who dreamt of pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree after high school.
“We are proud of the impact we have made through this scholarship program,” said Stephen Budorick, President and CEO of COPT. “Finding ways to support the communities in which we work is always a top priority and the collaboration between COPT, Akridge, and Argos Group to create this program not only benefits the community but continues promoting the impact of Thaddeus Stevens to ensure that his legacy will continue.”
“It’s an honor to help DC students achieve their goals of attending college,” said David Toney, senior vice president of development for Akridge. “The recipients of this scholarship have been dedicated, driven, and hardworking students and it’s been a pleasure to see how they’ve applied themselves in their various fields of interest.”
Throughout his life, Stevens advocated for equal education opportunities for all. This program honors that legacy by giving students the opportunity to further their education and pursue their dreams.
Mikaleiwill be attending North Carolina A&T University this fall and is planning to major in psychology.
