Total Wine Reinvests In Maryland Headquarters

Total Wine & More , the largest independent wine retailer in the nation, is growing its presence in Montgomery County, Md. and creating more than 180 new jobs in the state.

The company – located at 6600 Rockledge Drive in Bethesda – is planning to renew its existing lease and add up to 75,000 square-feet at its headquarters. Total Wine is currently on track to employ 654 full-time workers at the facility by the end of 2022, and will add its new employees over the next five years.

Founded in 1991 by brothers Robert and David Trone, Total Wine calls itself America’s Wine Superstore®. The company has expanded to 233 stores over the past 30 years in business, with a presence in more than half of the states across the country where they employ 11,000+ workers.

To assist the company with its expansion, the Maryland Department of Commerce has approved an $850,000 conditional loan through Advantage Maryland , formerly the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund (MEDAAF). The company is also eligible for the state’s Job Creation Tax Credit .

“Total Wine’s reinvestment in its Bethesda headquarters is tremendous news for Montgomery County and the entire state,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “We thank the Trone brothers for their continued dedication to doing business and creating new jobs in Maryland.”

The average Total Wine retailer carries upwards of 13,000 wines, beers, and spirits; its local stores feature many Maryland-made products including Sagamore Spirit, Seacrets Distilling Company, Heavy Seas Beer, Burley Oak Brewing Company, Linganore Winecellars, Boordy Vineyards, and Charm City Meadworks.
