Historic Stranahan House Museum Cools Down With Generous Donation From Air Around The Clock and Rheem

Sunrise-based Air Around the Clock and Rheem®, a leading global manufacturer of water heating and HVACR products, has generously donated and installed a new air conditioning system in the Historic Stranahan House Museum in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The heat can be particularly harsh on timeless artifacts that require a controlled climate to stay preserved. “We try to limit the exposure to heat and humidity as much as possible because we have so many authentic, precious pieces,” said Christine Yates, president of the Stranahan House board of directors. “That is why this donation from Air Around the Clock and Rheem is so significant to us in helping to preserve the history of Fort Lauderdale.”

When Mike Lang, chief of operations at Air Around the Clock, heard that Stranahan House needed a new air conditioning system, he contacted the company’s supplier, Rheem, and they offered to donate the unit. Air Around the Clock donated the labor.

“I have children and I have grandchildren who I want to know the history of our area. I think that’s important,” said Lang in a recent interview. “This will help Stranahan House raise more money to preserve a treasured community landmark. We’re standing in an area surrounded by modern buildings and there sits the Historic Stranahan House Museum, where it truly all began. This is the only history Fort Lauderdale has.”

Historic Stranahan House and Air Around the Clock was recently featured on the home improvement show, SoFlo Home Project. During the show, viewers got an up close and personal tour of Stranahan House with Education and Curatorial Coordinator Jonathan Axler who brought the architecture and history to life. Viewers also learned how to incorporate features of Stranahan House into their own homes. The video is available for viewing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5O8nn9MVIY.

About Historic Stranahan House Museum

Built in 1901, the Stranahan House is the oldest and most historically significant surviving structure in Broward County, Florida. Built by founding father of Fort Lauderdale, Frank Stranahan, the structure served as the pioneer wilderness’ trading post, post office, bank, and gathering place. After marrying the area’s first school teacher, Ivy Cromartie Stranahan, the building became their home and later a boarding house, a restaurant, and now a museum. Sitting on its original location in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Historic Stranahan House Museum remains a connection to the past while operating as an educational center, cultural destination, and community event space. The museum is open 7 days a week for tours and is located at 335 SE 6th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. For more information, visit www.stranahanhouse.org or call 954-524-4736.
