NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde announced today that KC Sullivan will become president of CNBC and that Mark Hoffman will step down as chairman following a 28-year career at NBC and NBCUniversal.
Hoffman, an award-winning media executive has spent 28 years at NBC. He was appointed president of CNBC in 2005 and chairman in 2015. He has led the transformation of CNBC into a leading, multi-platform international business brand, overseeing the expansion of its global footprint and establishing a profitable and growing digital business.
“The growth and success of CNBC over so many years is a testament to Mark’s leadership over a nearly three-decade-long career marked by many wins along the way,” Conde said. “During his tenure, CNBC became a world leader and every year it has grown better and stronger. It continues to expand both domestically and internationally through new platforms and plays an essential role in keeping audiences and markets informed in real time about consequential issues and events.”
Sullivan, who will begin his new role on Sept. 12 and will report to Conde, is currently president and managing director of Global Advertising and Partnerships at NBCUniversal, based in London. In that role, he created the global partnerships team, which tripled revenue in two years while building a collaborative, inclusive culture. He forged a strong partnership with Sky Media in the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany and established a new partnership with the RTL Ad Alliance. Before that, Sullivan spent more than a decade in leadership roles at CNBC and NBCU News Group, including as president and managing director of CNBC International, chief financial officer of the News Group and CFO of CNBC. He came to NBC from General Electric, where he worked for nine years.
“KC is the right person at the right time to lead CNBC forward,” Conde said. “His exceptional track record of leadership at CNBC and NBC News, combined with his extensive commercial experience and international perspective will take the organization to the next level.’’
Sullivan said that “with Mark’s leadership, CNBC has been the world’s #1 business news brand and has long been an indispensable outlet to its audiences for real-time financial coverage, business news and analysis, and other programming. It has been a pioneer in expanding a broadcasting brand into digital, e-commerce and subscription offerings. I am excited to build on Mark’s extraordinary legacy and have the opportunity to be returning to the CNBC leadership team, particularly as the brand’s reach continues to grow internationally and through new offerings.”
